Our brains are hardwired to respond to certain stimuli. When you’re trying to relax, you might be using the eyes, the hands, and the tongue. If you’re trying to find a comfortable position, you might be using the legs. Our brains are wired to respond to these things and react accordingly.
So when we look at the news, we see an overwhelming number of people suffering from mental illness. There are more people suffering from mental illness than there are people who died in the last week. This is the most common mental illness in the United States, so it’s worth knowing that, if you suffer with one of these, it could be something you have to get help for.
It is a fact that there are more people with mental illness than the next most common illness. We have a history of over-dramatizing a few things. In the past, we would only have to look at the numbers and recognize that it is a problem. But now we have to use our minds to figure out how to fix it.
One reason a lot of people think this is a mental illness is because so many of our patients do not know what it is. They are misdiagnosed or not told that it is something they have. But it is not.
Behavioral health is a medical disease that many of us have to deal with, whether we’re in full-time work, school, or our own household. That’s why it is so important for people with mental illness to get the help they need. Getting the help they need to stay well is the first step. But knowing how to be a good human being, and staying that way, without being too judgmental, is the next one.
Behavioral health is a way to describe our personal response when we are sick. To be healthy, to be strong, to know how to be polite, to be kind, to be responsible, to be successful, these are all things that we do so we can live to the fullest.
Having behavioral health problems is usually a result of depression, anxiety, stress, or a combination of these. It’s important to get the help you need to stay well, but you should also be able to ask for it to be given without being judgmental. Asking for help doesn’t mean you’re asking for something you don’t want.
One of my favorite lines from the new trailer comes from Colt. He says: “I am just a man, and I am sick, and I am not well.” This is a sentiment that just gets to me. I think that when we are ill we sometimes don’t realize how sick we are. Maybe it starts with a simple cold, but a little self awareness goes a long way.
This is a topic that many of us have had varying perspectives of. For some of us, we have experienced the effects of illness or the effects of injury. For others, illness and injury are just things that we face everyday. For others, they are something that we never have to deal with. For others, they are something that we have to deal with because of something that happened to us.
People with chronic illnesses, injuries, or psychological distress don’t just sit around saying, “well, I’m not going to take care of myself.” Instead, they actively seek out help. We all find our own sources of support, but the point is that there are still people who don’t know what to do with their own health.
