I was never a fan of crafts. I felt they were too involved and too time-consuming. I don’t remember having any interest in crafts until I was in elementary school, when my mom would go to local craft stores and bring home the crafts that she made and then give them to me. Even then, I wasn’t a huge fan of crafts or anything else. But that was just part of my mom’s life, and so I embraced it.
With preschoolers, the only real thing that seems to interest them is arts and crafts, and they seem to be no more interested in it than your average toddler. They are, however, very picky. I have had to stop the fun crafts that I had on a regular basis because they were just too much.
So I was a little surprised to hear that she made things with fabric. It was a little weird that she didn’t just get a basic fabric swatch and go from there. She’s really talented and it almost sounds like she knew what she was doing. I guess the fact that she made a swatch of a swatch was just a bit of a waste of fabric, but I’m sure that she’ll think about that in the future.
That was my surprise, too. I thought she was just going to make one piece of fabric and put it on the board and do something with it later. I guess it was a bad swatch, I guess.
I got a few new fabric swatches from her in the mail yesterday and all of them are great. Here are a few of her more recent ones. The first one is this bright yellow, sort of floral patterned fabric that has a slightly different pattern than the fabric she previously used. The next one is a blue, sort of floral patterned fabric with a slightly different pattern from the fabric she previously used.
These are just beautiful fabrics. The colors are so bright and vibrant, yet the patterns are simple enough that they can be used by preschoolers. Of course, the fabric is machine washable, which is a plus.
