I love this quote from the book, Why I Eat With My Mouth Full. It’s one of the most important healthiest things I know about because it reminds me that there are three levels of self-awareness. For the first level, you are aware of what you are eating. For my second level, I am aware of how I am eating it. And for my third level, I am aware of the fact that I just ate it.
Self-awareness is important, but the best way to get there is to think about it. Just like that quote reminded me, self-awareness is just a level. It doesn’t mean you have to stop and sit down and decide whether or not you are a good eater. It just means that you are aware of your own self-awareness.
As we all know, the first step in self-awareness is to be aware of what you are eating. The second step is to decide whether or not you are eating it. And the third step is to decide whether or not you are aware of your own eating habits. All the other steps are just there to make it easier for us to move on.
While I think this is true, the fact is that it takes a lot more than being aware of your own eating habits. It also takes a lot more than just being aware of your self-awareness. The idea isn’t to be self-aware all the time. It just means that all the other steps are just there to make it easier for us to move on.
People with self-awareness are able to exercise a little meta-cognition and say, “Hmm… every time my sister calls me and asks for money, I end up drinking a lot of vodkas. That might not be a coincidence,” a person without self-awareness just hits the bottle and doesn’t look back.
Yes, that is very true. There’s a lot more that goes into eating habits than simple awareness of self. For example, people who eat poorly may have a habit of eating the same foods in the same meals. People who eat poorly may be addicted to a particular food (such as sugar).
In a similar vein, most of us have a habit of drinking coffee in the morning. This is the reason we often get up at the same time every morning. It’s not a conscious decision to go to the bathroom. It’s just a habit.
The problem is that we are habit-forming. A good example of this, is the habit of taking a shower. No matter how many times I say, “no,” and go back to what I’ve been doing, my shower is always the same. What’s more, I find it hard to get out of my own way when I’m in the shower.
This habit actually affects our ability to be healthy. If you have a habit to take a shower, you are less likely to be healthy. It can also be hard to quit this habit when Im constantly in the shower. Once you have a habit, you are more likely to keep it. Thats a recipe for disaster, because once you have a habit, you are more likely to keep it, and harder to break it.
We found that people who have a habit of showering often are more prone to disease. One study found that people with a habit of taking a shower were more likely to get heart disease, diabetes, asthma, and high blood pressure. The study also found that people who have a habit of taking a shower were also more likely to die from respiratory diseases, such as pneumonia. Of course, the researchers didn’t find any evidence that taking a shower made you more likely to get cancer.
