I read a few different sources on the topic and I have to agree with the advice offered. The best advice I have heard so far is that you should read your nutrition labels. I don’t feel like I am a very good person in that I don’t check my nutrition labels, but it is something I need to do.

If the box says “Bran-Bran-Protein” and the nutrition label says “Bran,” then I feel confident that the cereal was formulated to contain B- and P-situated foods. But if the cereal box says “Bran Bran” and the nutrition label says “Bran Bran,” then I am not buying it.

But it’s the area that is most affected by food deserts: The “food desert” is a term first coined by researchers trying to figure out why poor people are so hungry. It’s basically a geographical area that has no grocery store or supermarket.
In the area that is most impacted by the food desert is the city of Chicago. The city itself has a severe food desert. For instance, the city’s high rise condos are very expensive. Many of them have no grocery store nearby. This is a common occurrence in the city of Chicago, but the real problem is that the city has a severe shortage of healthy food and it’s leading to health problems for the average Chicagoan.

So the city of Chicago is trying to combat this food desert by building a supermarket in an area where the city is lacking healthy food. The supermarket is called “the Chicago Supermarket,” and it’s slated to open in the city in mid-2011.
The Chicago Supermarket will be part of a partnership with a local food bank called the Healthy Foods Coalition. According to the Chicago Tribune, the Healthy Foods Coalition will get $30 million from the city to build the Chicago Supermarket, but the city will also pay for the supermarket. The Chicago Tribune reports that the food bank will be able to get two of its food items, chicken and potatoes, from the supermarket.
