I’ve seen many people in need of help in my life. Some of them are very well-meaning, some of them are not. Most of them are suffering from depression or some kind of mental illness. It’s the same with the folks in the south county mental health center. They’re all people who are in need of help, but each of them has a different story to tell.
The south county mental health center is a non-profit, community-based service for those facing mental health issues, including those who have experienced a violent crime or have a history of violence. The people who work there are all volunteers and are dedicated to giving their time to those in need, and they do this without any compensation.
The problem is, for the people who work there, there are no benefits. They only get paid after they deliver the goods. On a good day they can make enough to buy a cup of coffee. On a bad day, they can only afford to buy a cup of coffee. They live paycheck to check, and they can never say when they will have enough money to live on.
In the olden days, when mental health centers were places where people could go when they didn’t know how to get better, the job was considered a good one. The people there were volunteers, but they earned their wages by looking out for others. They didn’t expect to get paid, but they expected that their work would be meaningful. They didn’t expect to be paid at all.
The people that work at south county mental health center are volunteers, and even though they have no expectation of getting paid, they expect to be paid. That’s the way it should be.
And that is why they do a fantastic job. They want to help others, and they actually do just that. They do a great job, and they arent making money in the office. The people there take care of each other, and treat others the way they would want to be treated, and that is why they are doing such a great job.
One of the people at the center, Jamey, is a member of the psychiatric service network and is currently serving in a supervisory capacity. He’s been working at South County since the 90s. He’s never held a career job himself, and has been in a position of leadership of the center for more than 20 years.
South County Mental Health Center is a service of the mental health department. It provides services to the indigent in the county. In their brochure on the center, they describe themselves as “a service oriented, community based organization.” It is, however, a center for those who have a mental illness. The center has a policy of providing people with the “highest level of care and assistance.
The new trailer is very cool. There’s a lot about the center and how it operates, but I love the idea of a mental health center that focuses on helping people with mental illnesses. After seeing the trailer I decided to email the center and ask them a specific question. I asked if the center would be open the following day and they said yes. I then decided to go to the office and ask them if they would be open the following day as well.
The answer was no. The following day would have been the Tuesday my brother got out of the hospital and his doctor said he needed to go home. I was sad. I was really sad. But this trailer was just too cool, so I called them and asked if I could come in the following day. They said, “Yeah, sure. We’re open for you. If you need anything, we’re open.” So, now I’m not sad anymore.
