I work with students with special needs and learning disabilities. We work to provide them with the tools they need to succeed in school. I offer a variety of services to help students reach their goals and to help them feel like they are valued and important in their school environment.
When I found out about a student health clinic, I was excited because I wanted to use it as a resource for people who have special needs to get the support they need. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm was short-lived. I quickly realized that the health clinic would not be a good fit for the students I serve. It was a clinic created for the disabled in a place that is not equipped to serve them.
I didn’t realize how bad the health clinic was until the students told me. The clinic is a short walk from the school to the campus bookstore, which is one of the few places where students can go to get books, supplies, and snacks. Not only is the clinic physically far away, it had no place for a special needs student to get the support they needed. The health clinic is also not equipped to meet the needs of the students because they are not students.
The health clinic isn’t even equipped to treat the students who need to see a doctor. The students are not students and so the school doesn’t even care. When the school does need to see the doctor, the students get to go to a hospital that is not even equipped to provide health care. The health clinic is so far away from the school that the school is not even sure if the students are even on the campus.
So basically, as a student, you have to walk to school to see a doctor and the clinic is not even equipped to treat the students. In a perfect world, the clinic would be on campus and provide health care, but there are so many sick students that the school can’t afford to hire staff.
So, it is not perfect, but it is a reality that many schools lack the ability to offer health care. To be fair to the school, they are the ones who set the rules and regulations, and they are in the best position to deal with this situation.
Many schools have these policies in place for various reasons. Some schools just don’t have the funds to run a full-fledged clinic. They just don’t have the resources, and that is what we see in this situation. Some schools have been sued because they do not have the equipment to treat their students.
Yes they have all the resources, but the only reason they have health care is because the school is setting the regulations for them. This is where we see the problem.
The school has a policy against providing medical care for students. The problem is that the hospital is not a public school and is run by an extremely wealthy private school with a well-established reputation. They don’t have the money to invest in a full-fledged health clinic, so they hire a private clinic instead. The private clinic has the equipment, but the school is still responsible for maintaining it.
So as long as private clinics are able to treat students, it is the school that has to pay for their health care. But what happens when the private clinic’s students start to demand medical care in the class they are in? The schools policy is that it has to be provided by the school. So the private clinic must set up an emergency room for students, and the school is now responsible for treating them.
